Faced with yet another late night at the library, graphemics student Gwen Lettiere is at her wit’s end. For months, she’s been researching the mystery of the ampersand to no avail.

But she’s not the only one hiding in the stacks. Sandy has been watching Gwen from the shadows, fostering an obsession with the beautiful researcher. No one has cared for Sandy since she was denounced as a letter almost 200 years ago, so when she accidentally reveals herself to Gwen, she shoots her shot.
